Dr. Urdal has served as one of our directors since joining the Company in July 1995. He served as chief scientific officer from 1995 until his retirement in 2011, vice chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors from 1995 to June 2004, as executive vice president from January 1999 through December 2000, as the Company’s president from January 2001 to December 2003, and as senior vice president since June 2004. From 1982 until July 1995, Dr. Urdal held various positions with Immunex Corporation, a biotechnology company, including President of Immunex Manufacturing Corporation, Vice President and Director of Development, and head of the departments of biochemistry and membrane biochemistry. Dr. Urdal serves as a director of VLST, a biotechnology company and ORE Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a pharmaceutical drug repositioning and development company. Dr. Urdal received a B.S. in zoology, a M.S. in Public Health and a Ph.D. in Biochemical Oncology from the University of Washington.
