Susan B. Bayh

Ms. Bayh has served as one of our directors since our acquisition of Corvas International, Inc. (“Corvas”), a biotechnology company, in July 2003. Prior to that, she had served as a director of Corvas since June 2000. From 1994 to 2004, she was a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the College of Business Administration at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. From 1994 to 2001, she was a Commissioner for the International Commission between the United States and Canada, overseeing compliance with environmental and water level treaties for the United States-Canada border. From 1989 to 1994, Ms. Bayh served as an attorney in the Pharmaceutical Division of Eli Lilly and Company, a pharmaceutical company. She currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Wellpoint, Inc., a health benefits company, Dyax Corp., a biotechnology company, Curis, Inc., a therapeutic drug development company, and Emmis Communications, a diversified media company, and previously served on the Board of Directors of MDRNA, Inc. (formerly Nastech Pharmaceutical Company Inc.), a biotechnology company, from 2006 to 2009. Ms. Bayh’s service on multiple healthcare, pharmaceutical and biotechnology company boards, as well as her academic, international and regulatory experience, give her the skills and appropriate qualifications to serve as a member of our Board. Ms. Bayh received a B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley and her J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School.
